WRITING DIALOGUE
Dialogue is what makes your writing - fiction or non fiction - come alive for readers.
Learn how to make dialogue work for you- to develop character, advance your plot, impart information, show conflict or tension, set the mood, and make readers part of the action.
Week 1: The tasks of dialogue. Using dialogue to advance your plot.
Week 2: Develop and reveal your characters through believable dialogue.
Week 3: Using dialogue to show conflict and/or tension.
Week 4: Imparting information to readers through dialogue. When to and when not to use dialogue.
Week 5: Set the mood for your scene with dialogue. Using rhythm, word choice, word order and unusual usages to create the mood.
Week 6: Make readers part of the action. Get readers inside your story, where they can care about your characters.
6-week classes begin the first Friday of each month - or take it as a One-on-One and begin immediately upon registration.
Take as a One-on-One course:
1) begin any time,
2) work one-on-one with your instructor, and
3) take up to 12 weeks to complete.
Fee: $ 180.00. $225.00 for One-on-One
Student Comments: "Great course! It really helped me to identify some of the areas I need to
work on." Reagan Reichert "I actually got more out of this than I counted on. Now I feel more
comfortable with dialogue. I have a better idea of what I'm trying to
achieve rather than just putting words into characters' mouths.
Since taking this, I also have found that I can see more of the techniques
presented here in the stories I've been reading. That in itself is an
immense help." Patty Esden "I find your course superb. I'm loosening up, trusting more and more my
creative juices." "I knew my dialogue sounded dumb, but didn't know why until I took this
class. Now my characters sound real!" eclectusownr "I always wondered how to bypass flashbacks to get in needed information.
Your pointers on telescoping did the trick for me. Thanks, Patrika." lovlilo My stories didn't get shorter after taking this class, but they sure moved
along a lot faster! And that's because you showed me how to write dialogue that
snaps, sparkes and MOVES!. Thanks." jeanneh101 Thought for the day: Become
