WRITING COACHING
Here's your chance to work with a professional
advisor on your Works in Progress, including those that are in the planning stages - short
stories, articles, novels, and non-fiction books You will get feedback and insight
into getting started and sounding out your ideas.
What happens in a tutorial?
You ask some questions and we ask some questions, such as what you want help
with. We may read only part of your paper or all of it, and you talk about your
writing concerns. We answer your questions. We talk with you about strategies
you can use. We offer personal help with planning, revising, and any other
aspect of your writing. We don't write papers for you, but we help you write
better ones.
4-week classes begin the first Friday of each month.
Fee: $90
Week I:
Critique:
Submit whatever you have written so far (up to 100 pages), along with an indication of
what you hope to achieve with this work. Your Coach will give you an assessment of
what you have, and begin suggesting how you might better achieve your goal.
Week 2:
Work will continue on the material, as agreed upon by you
and your Coach
Week 3:
More work on your stated goals and the
specifics of getting to them
Week 4:
Finishing up, and determining if you
are now on the right road or need further coaching.
Student Comment: "I've taken a lot of classes and they all teach me -- but somehow I had trouble translating the lessons to my own works (too subjectively involved, I guess, to see the forest for the trees.) Coaching solved that, and I thank you!"
I love this...and your book (I'm still reading it)...excellent. You've made me aware of things around me. You've opened my eyes to the point that I will have to get a tape recorder to be able to record it all. Not only do I see the landscape but the surroundings are much more interesting, not to mention the people in airports, restaurants...Fantastic...
Great class. After reading your lesson, I realized how info.-heavy beginnings really turn me off. That's why I can never read much science fiction. Those beginnings bore me. And yet, I'm guilty of the same tendency to get info.-happy at the beginning. Thanks!
I learned a lot about openings. I especialy liked your real-life examples from other writers, to show how it's done.
Let me thank you again for being such a help to me. The feedback has been invaluable and the whole experience a very positive one. Glad I stumbled across Acapella when I did.
Your comments were always helpful, filled with good ideas and recommendations. Honest feedback helped clarify areas of improvement and the rewrites helped me improve..... Your positive comments helped encourage me. Thanks. This book is really coming together. I appreciate the time you've taken with it Youve really helped me move this project forward.
Thought for the day: Oh, what a tangled website we weave when first we practice.
